our.history
Through the winter of 2005, Jason, Katie, and I started discussing communal living. We did not know what this would look like; so we started to pray and think about it. The Lord started directing us to the Manchester region. As the calendar turned we felt that it was time to start organizing our thoughts about God and what He was showing us.
In April of 2006 we started down a long journey of designing our logo, as well as writing and recording our documents (philosophy, mission statement, creed, values, now, likeness, sources, vision, and goals). Jason, Katie, and I met most mondays (and other nights during the week) to discuss what we believe and what a local church in the Manchester, CT region might look like. These meetings were over dinner and sometimes went on well into the morning hours.
The spring and summer months led to occasional meetings with various members of the leadership at Victory Tabernacle Church for guidance and wise counsel. Throughout these months we were in the process of purchasing a home in Manchester. We found a beautiful two-family home in the Charter Oak park area. July and August of 2006 were filled with paper work for the house and moving our life to Manchester. We started in the first season of planting roots: BBQ's, fire side chats, movie nights...
In September of 2006 we finished the final first draft of our documents, which is posted here online. September 11, 2006 was the first meeting of Case Mountain Community Church. We had pizza, discussions, harvest bars, coffee, free stuff, and great worship music. Our gatherings usually include discussion, experiential worship, free stuff, coffee, and dessert. Currently, we meet every monday at 6:30- 8:30. Check out "about us" for our gathering information.
September 30, 2006 Case Mountain Community members participated in the first community interaction at Manchester Community College. It was a "walk and roll" to establish funds to raise disability awareness. One of the church's dreams is to serve the region through community events in creative ways and see how the Holy Spirit moves. In September and October members started attending neighborhood events such as Block Watch meetings and a Town meeting on possible kid's community center options for the area.
The beginning of October was a break out time, we had several local people who started attending our worship gatherings. It was the largest gathering todate with eight people participating in prayer, discussion, song, conversation, and eating. This was also the first CMCC birthday, Steve Kosswig turned 20!
October 21, 2006 was a day that led to another interesting event. This was our BBQ and fire night. All was well, angus on the grill, veggie pasta salad, chips, dessert. The fire was on and ready for people to sit and enjoy. Everyone was sitting around the campfire when we heared many sirens coming towards our house or atleast the neighborhood. They came to the next street over, however the fire that someone smelled was coming from our pit. A person in my sisters townhouse called the fire department because she smelt smoke and thought she saw a house on fire. Oops!
Throughout the month of November 2006, people of Case Mountain Community spent time developing relationships, raising ministry awareness, and establishing dates for our goals. On Nov. 29th, Eric met with Pastor Pete about the past, present, and future of Case Mountain Community Church. They spent two and a half hours speaking about the gatherings, the people, and the dream (vision) to come. Pastor Pete acknowledged that Case Mountain Community was hearing from the LORD and in his timing. Pastor Pete concurred that May 6th be the date for the first Sunday gathering, and all the dates on the spread sheet were good. Yeah!
December was full of advent with teachings, conversation, exploration, and connection. We explored hope, love, joy, and peace. We look forward to what God's bringing in the New Year.
The winter and spring of 2007 were full of preparation for our Sunday Worship Gatherings. During the month of April we began gathering on Sundays and on may 6th, we began gathering at Orange Hall in Manchester, CT.
